Why The Good Grocer loves them

The snack that gives back!

With sweet, spicy flavours and bold, vibrant packaging, these snacks perfectly evoke the vividness and beauty of India. More importantly, they support India's children. For every bag sold, a free school lunch is provided to a disadvantaged child, allowing them better access to education and a brighter future.

their story

Having been raised in India, Howdah founder Falu Shah has seen first-hand how hunger impacts the education prospects of large numbers of Indian children. She launched her brand to not only bring the flavours of her childhood to the premium snack market, but also to help to break down barriers to children accessing education in India.

Hunger is one of the biggest barriers to education. Hungry children cannot concentrate, and many parents can't afford to educate their children because of the cost of school meals. India alone is home to a third of the world's malnourished children – 3000 of whom die every day from hunger-related illnesses. Without the means to pay for school meals, many Indian children drop out of education and end up in child labour.

Every time a pack of Howdah snacks is sold, a free school lunch is provided to a child in need, through their partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, which strives to eliminate classroom hunger in India.

This is often the only nutritious meal a child will eat in a day so, by encouraging these children to go to school and feeding them properly, they give their parents the motivation to support their children's education and, most importantly, help the children develop the skills they need to build brighter futures.

Since their launch, Howdah have enabled over 1 million school meals to be provided to children in need in India.
